## Cowork and chat are now one
Starting September 16, 2026, Claude Cowork and chat merge into a single interface. You can ask quick questions or hand over complex work, and Claude keeps going even after you close your laptop.
## New docs, slides, and design tools
Claude Docs and Claude Slides launch today in beta. Claude Design now works inside conversations too. Ask for a document or presentation, and Claude drafts it for you to edit, present, or download as PowerPoint or PDF.
## No more choosing where work goes
Before, users had to decide whether a task belonged in Cowork or Design, and work didn't carry between them. Now Claude figures out what each task needs and handles it from any conversation.
## Real example: weekly report workflow
Ask Claude to write a weekly report the way you always do, flag slipped items, and create five slides for leadership. Claude asks clarifying questions, you check progress on your phone, and both the doc and slides are ready by the time you arrive at your desk.
## Everything lives at one shareable link
Documents, slides, and designs you create with Claude all live at a single shareable link accessible on any device. Edit elements directly or tell Claude what to change, and you keep the final say.
## Control how Claude checks in
By default, Claude asks before taking action. You can switch to letting it work continuously and only check in when something needs closer review. You always keep the final say on what gets published.
## Rolling out to Pro and Max first
The merge launches on Pro and Max plans across web, desktop, and mobile over the coming weeks. Team and Free plans follow soon. Enterprise admins get at least 30 days notice before changes.
## Existing Cowork users keep their work
If you've been using Cowork, everything stays where you left it: your chats, projects, artifacts, connectors, and skills. Just open the app and pick up where you stopped.
## Chat users need no changes
If you mostly use chat, nothing changes. When you want to hand over something bigger, just try the next report or deck you'd normally build yourself.
## Key takeaway

Claude now figures out what each task needs, so you can work on complex projects directly in chat without choosing between separate tools.
