## Colts owner sets improvement deadline
Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon told coach Shane Steichen and G.M. Chris Ballard in January that improvements were needed for 2026.
## Colts at 2-4 after Sunday loss
The Colts are 2-4 after Sunday's loss to the previously-winless Titans, following last year's 8-2 start.
## Colts avoid firing both leadership
Irsay-Gordon chose a half-measure by making a minor coaching change instead of firing both Steichen and Ballard.
## Colts need front office stability
The front office must stabilize before the 2027 offseason plans, which will change once a new G.M. is hired.
## New coach hire depends on G.M.
The next coach hire will be more attractive if the new G.M. has a clean slate and prefers Steichen.
## Colts face playoff hope
The only chance for a playoff appearance comes from firing G.M. Chris Ballard to spark improvement.
## Colts next game
The Colts visit the 5-0 Minnesota Vikings in six days for their next game.
## Key takeaway

Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon opted for interim coach change instead of firing both Shane Steichen and Chris Ballard after a 2-4 start.
