## Same old Cowboys defense
Dallas allowed the most points in football last season. Their Week 1 loss to the Giants looked eerily similar, with the defense struggling to get off the field.
## Giants dominated time of possession
New York ran four double-digit play drives. The Cowboys defense only forced two punts without allowing points all game.
## Offseason moves haven't paid off
Dallas brought in new coordinator Christian Parker, drafted Caleb Downs, and traded for Rashan Gary. The results look no different from 2025.
## McCourty calls out unacceptable breakdowns
The former All-Pro safety pointed to two touchdowns where Dallas didn't cover anyone. He called the miscommunication and free runners embarrassing.

> You can't allow that to happen. If you are the Dallas Cowboys, what do you prepare for?
## Time to look in the mirror
McCourty challenged Dallas to stop talking and take action. He said the team drank too much Kool-Aid about offseason improvements.

> It's a little bit of 'we all drank way too much of that Kool-Aid.'
## Quick fixes needed before Week 2
Last year's elite offense couldn't overcome defensive struggles, costing Dallas a playoff spot. They face division rival Washington next.
## Key takeaway

Despite offseason additions, the Cowboys defense showed the same breakdowns that plagued them in 2025, with unacceptable miscommunication leading to wide-open touchdowns.
