## Le Batard spots a pattern
During the Chiefs' 31-10 win over Denver on Monday night, Dan Le Batard noticed Troy Aikman kept using nearly identical phrases to describe different players and situations.
## The first quarter barrage
Aikman said Denver's roster was "as deep as any in football," their secondary was "as good as there is," and Trent McDuffie was "as good as anyone" - all within the opening quarter.

> "The Denver roster is as deep as any in football"
## The second quarter continues
The pattern persisted into the second quarter with Aikman describing Denver's defense, offensive line, and individual players using the same formulaic comparisons.

> "Denver is as good as any defense in football"
## Le Batard demands verification
Skeptical that anyone could be this repetitive, Le Batard went back and rewrote the quotes to confirm he heard them correctly during the broadcast.

> "Am I hearing this right?"
## Super Bowl stakes loom
Le Batard noted that ESPN is broadcasting the Super Bowl this February, meaning Aikman's voice will reach millions of viewers during the sport's biggest event.
## Part of a larger pattern
Commentators face regular criticism for lazy analysis. NBC's Cris Collinsworth has drawn similar complaints for constantly working Patrick Mahomes into commentary regardless of relevance.
## Key takeaway

Aikman repeatedly used the same superlative structure to describe different players and aspects of the game, drawing criticism for lazy commentary.
