## Designer builds dream home from scratch
Natalie Chong, a designer and mother of two, set out to create a beautiful home that could actually handle family life. She renovated a 100-year-old house, keeping its classic centre-hall plan while adding contemporary finishes.

> It's every designer's dream to build your home from scratch, and that's what we did.
## Stone and marble take centre stage
The home features show-stopping marble in the kitchen and limestone in the powder room. These durable, beautiful materials anchor the design while standing up to daily family wear and tear.
## Light floods in through smart windows
Oversized windows and skylights bring natural light throughout the home and add architectural character. The bright, airy spaces make the home feel larger and more welcoming.
## Performance fabrics handle real life
Natalie chose performance fabrics that resist stains and wear, allowing the home to stay beautiful despite constant use. These durable textiles let families enjoy their spaces without worry.
## Flexible spaces shift from play to entertaining
The living room transforms from a play space for kids to an entertaining area for adults. A clever child's gate keeps toys contained, making it easy to switch between modes.
## Key takeaway

You can create a stylish, sophisticated home that actually works for kids by choosing durable materials and flexible spaces.
