## Meet the Heir of Westmarch
Diablo 5 drops the Wanderer archetype. You play the Heir of Westmarch, a fugitive running from the forces of hell.
## A bond with Diablo
Narrative director Jennifer Hepler says the Heir has a link to Diablo himself, and the game slowly reveals how it formed.

> a unique bond with Diablo that you find out over the course of the game, why and how it came to be
## Insight cuts both ways
That bond gives you a read on the Lord of Terror. It also leaves you open to him in a way nobody else is.

> insight into him, but also a unique vulnerability to what he can do to you
## Resist him or use him
Hepler frames the whole game as a question of whether you hold the line or turn Diablo's power back on him. Story and combat both answer it.

> Can you resist his influence? Can you turn his powers against him?
## Surviving the terror realm
The plot proper kicks off when the Heir walks into the terror realm and comes back out alive.

> the story really begins when you find out that you can enter the terror realm and survive
## Spring 2029 is the wait
All of this came from the Forging the Next Era panel. The release window is Spring 2029, so details will trickle out for years.
## Key takeaway

The Heir of Westmarch is built around a two-way link with Diablo: you get insight into him, and he gets a way into you.
