## The professor who left
Rutgers historian Mark Bray, author of "Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook," has a new book about leaving the United States with his family after Charlie Kirk was assassinated.
## A January release date
"Unpunctuated Death Threats: Notes from a Fascist Present" arrives Jan. 19. It tells the story of his departure for Spain after he says he got death threats and his home address was posted online.

> Notes from a Fascist Present
## Stopped at the airport
Bray's publisher ties the exit directly to the mood after Kirk's Sept. 10, 2025 murder, and says federal agents questioned him at the airport before the family reached Spain.

> left him a wreck
## America as a place to flee
The book pitches Trump's America as a new fascism of far-right influencers and networked violence, and says Bray returns to his Jewish identity looking for answers.

> has shockingly made the United States a place to flee from
## Students want him out
In October, Rutgers students in the campus Turning Point USA chapter started a petition to have Bray removed, pointing to his past statements.
## Militant anti-fascism on the record
His handbook calls for militant anti-fascism and sends at least half his author proceeds to an international antifa defense fund. On Bluesky he wrote that only mass antifascism can save anyone.

> Only mass antifascism, legal or not, can save us.
## Critics call it ironic
Rutgers sophomore Megan Doyle said Bray cannot be the victim given his funding of antifa legal defense, and noted he is still paid by a state university while promoting the book abroad.

> Mark Bray's portrayal of himself as a victim in his new book is highly ironic.
## Key takeaway

Mark Bray's book turns his own flight to Spain into an argument that America has become a place to escape, while critics say his politics undercut the victim framing.
