## Dungeons & Dragons TV History
Dungeons & Dragons has never had a live-action TV series despite mainstream exposure from Stranger Things and Honor Among Thieves.
## Previous D&D TV Attempts
Prime Video's The Legend of Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein proved animation works for D&D, but live-action projects have failed repeatedly.
## Ravenloft Project Details
Netflix's Ravenloft series focuses on Darklord Strahd von Zarovich's transformation with gothic horror and tragic romance.
## Ravenloft Creators
John August, Alfonso Cuarón, Gabriel Marano, Richard Schwartz, and Gaby Rodriguez are creating the show.
## Failed Projects Timeline
Paramount+ ordered an eight-episode D&D show in 2023 that was cancelled in 2024 and retooled for Netflix as Forgotten Realms.
## Why Ravenloft Works Now
Netflix has the budget and tech for fantasy worlds, and The Witcher proved their ability to build immersive universes.
## Ravenloft's Competitive Edge
Ravenloft avoids the pitfalls of Honor Among Thieves by allowing deeper character development and serialized storytelling.
## Ravenloft's Future
Ravenloft is Netflix's first live-action Dungeons & Dragons series after years of failed attempts and retooling.
## Key takeaway

Netflix is developing Ravenloft, the first live-action Dungeons & Dragons TV show, after previous projects like Paramount's Forgotten Realms failed.
