## Minisforum's silent storage system
Minisforum's S5 is a fanless network-attached storage system designed for users who need fast shared storage without mechanical drive noise.
## Five NVMe slots, up to 40TB
The S5's five M.2 NVMe slots support up to forty terabytes of solid-state storage, allowing owners to choose capacities that match their requirements.
## Intel processor with high-speed networking
The S5 uses Intel's Core 3 304 processor with five cores and boost speeds of up to four point three gigahertz, plus one ten gigabit ethernet port and two forty gigabit per second USB four…
## Passive cooling replaces fans entirely
Instead of using conventional fans, the system relies on heat pipes and cooling fins to dissipate heat, drawing about fifteen watts of CPU power under combined stress testing at twenty-five degrees Celsius ambient temperature.
## Speed claims: 100x faster random reads
Minisforum claims sequential read speeds can reach six times those of hard disk drives, with random reads reaching up to one hundred times faster, though actual performance depends on installed SSDs and workload characteristics.

## Bare-bones model costs $599
Minisforum lists the bare-bones S5 at five hundred ninety-nine dollars, discounted from seven hundred forty-nine dollars, with twelve gigabytes of LPDDR five x memory and one hundred twenty-eight gigabytes of UFS storage.
## Adding SSDs can save money versus preconfigured
Five Silicon Power UD ninety drives cost two thousand five hundred forty-nine dollars eighty-five cents, bringing the complete system to three thousand one hundred forty-eight dollars eighty-five cents, saving six hundred ten dollars fifteen cents…
## Key takeaway

Minisforum's fanless S5 NAS supports up to forty terabytes of solid-state storage with claimed random read speeds one hundred times faster than hard drives, priced from five hundred ninety-nine dollars bare-bones.
