## Drafted to be the guy
The Jets took Smith in the second round in 2013 and handed him the franchise quarterback job, expecting him to hold it for years.
## Act I ended badly
That first run in New York fell apart. The hopes the draft pick carried never turned into the long tenure the Jets planned for.

> Act I Geno didn't end well.
## A career in chapters
Smith has written a lot of them across 12 seasons, bouncing through roles and teams after New York let the first story close.
## Sunday in Nashville
Act II opens against the Titans in the 2026 season opener, with Smith back under center for the team that drafted him.
## The fan base is waiting
Jets fans have been expectant before. They want this version of the Smith era to finish somewhere better than the last one did.
## He wants the quiet version
Smith's career has been star-crossed and loud. What he's after now is a chapter with a lot less volatility attached to it.

> he hopes this chapter turns out to be much less volatile
## Key takeaway

Geno Smith gets something almost nobody in the NFL gets: a do-over with the team where it went wrong the first time.
