## Nest thermostats lose cloud support
Google ended support for first and second-generation Nest Learning Thermostats after over a decade of service.

> To fully invest in these advancements and bring you the most cutting-edge features on our latest generation of Nest thermostats, we will be transitioning away from supporting three of our oldest devices, each over a decade old.
## Affected thermostat models
First-generation Nest Learning Thermostat, second-generation Nest Learning Thermostat, and European second-generation Nest Learning Thermostat models.

> Each of these three Nest Learning Thermostats reached end-of-life status in October 2025.
## Features lost after cutoff
Remote control, app access, notifications, and third-party integrations stopped working after October 25, 2025.

> Essentially, any feature that relied on cloud services or Google Home and Nest connections stopped working as of Oct. 25, 2025.
## Manual control remains
Users can still set temperature, change cooling mode, and create schedules without internet.

> The features and settings that don't rely on Google Home and Nest servers to run still work, albeit only on the thermostat itself.
## Open-source project revival
No Longer Evil project restores cloud features via self-hosted servers or free web dashboards.

> Flash the new firmware onto your thermostat, create a free account, and use the web dashboard.
## Project benefits
Users gain remote control, scheduling, and auto-away features indefinitely through the project.

> Remote control, scheduling, and auto-away features will be available indefinitely via the project.
## No longer bricked
Thermostats remain functional without internet, avoiding landfill disposal.

> These Nest thermostats aren't guaranteed to end up in a landfill just yet.
## Key takeaway

Google discontinued cloud features for first and second-generation Nest Learning Thermostats, turning them into basic thermostats after over a decade of support.
