## Google launches AI-first laptop
Google's new Googlebook, priced at $899, is now available for preorder and ships October 4 in the U.S. It runs Android OS with Chrome browser and is designed to showcase Gemini's latest AI capabilities.
## Magic Cursor puts Gemini at your fingertips
The AI-powered cursor lets you highlight web content, check emails for spam, or ask Gemini to visualize selected images. It's similar to Android's Circle to Search feature.
## Rambler cleans up messy voice notes
Rambler is an AI-enhanced dictation feature that transforms rambling brain dumps into readable, organized text. It's one of the most genuinely useful AI features on the device.
## Features alone may not drive sales
Magic Cursor and vibe-coded widgets are clever but not compelling enough to justify buying a new laptop. Other features like Gemini Spark and Gemini Live don't require special hardware.
## Real target: 50 million school Chromebooks
Google's longer-term strategy is capturing the K-12 education market. About 50 million Chromebooks are currently in schools, and Google plans to transition them to the Googlebook experience.
## Premium specs and long support
Googlebooks feature up to 2.8K OLED displays, haptic trackpads, Intel and Qualcomm processors with dedicated AI chips, and up to 14 hours of battery life. Google promises updates for 10 years.
## Preorders start now, built by major makers
Preorders are open on Google Store, Best Buy, and other retailers. Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are building flagship models. The $899 price includes 12 months of Google AI Pro.
## Key takeaway

Google is betting that AI features baked into hardware, not just software, will drive laptop sales and eventually replace Chromebooks in schools and homes.
