## Guild Wars 3 comes to console
Guild Wars 3 will be the first game in the franchise to launch on both PlayStation 5 and PC simultaneously, marking a major expansion beyond the series' PC-only history.
## Reaching a wider audience
Studio head Colin Johanson says launching on console and Steam from day one allows ArenaNet to reach many more players than ever before.

> we can reach a much wider group of players
## A prequel for newcomers
Guild Wars 3 takes place 1000 years before the first game in the ancient land of Orr, so new players won't need to play previous games to understand the story.
## Everyone starts on equal footing
New and veteran players will learn the lore together, though longtime fans will recognize species, characters, and locations from the series' history.

> everybody is on equal footing
## An invitation for everyone
ArenaNet designed Guild Wars 3 as an entry point for players who've never touched the franchise, positioning it as their first Guild Wars experience.

> invitation for everybody to come play Guild Wars 3 together
## Beta coming fall 2027
Guild Wars 3 is currently in development with no release date announced, but a beta test is scheduled for fall 2027. An Xbox release remains unclear.
## Key takeaway

Guild Wars 3 is the first game in the series to launch on console, designed to attract new players who've never played the franchise before.
