## Mystery Box Shows
The mystery box format became popular with shows like The Prisoner and Twin Peaks, which immersed viewers in conspiracies without answers.
## Westworld's Struggles
Westworld had a strong first season but became too complex and alienated casual viewers after that, ending with three more seasons.
## Westworld's Creator Mistakes
Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy made the same mistakes that Damon Lindelof did with Lost.
## Leftovers' Unique Premise
Leftovers follows a world where 2% of the population vanished instantly, leaving the remaining 98% to grapple with existential questions.
## Leftovers' Consistency
Leftovers maintained a consistent story with character-driven drama, avoiding the convoluted plotlines of Westworld.
## Why Leftovers Stands Out
Leftovers focuses on the psychological impact of the Sudden Departure rather than the spectacle of a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
## Key takeaway

HBO's Leftovers, created by Lost's Damon Lindelof, is a more consistent mystery thriller than Westworld, which struggled after its first season.
