## Houston birth tourism center agrees to close
De'Ai Postpartum Care Center in Houston has agreed to shut down after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued the facility for helping Chinese nationals travel to Texas to give birth and obtain U.S. citizenship for their children.

> I will do everything in my power to stop foreign nationals from unlawfully exploiting our immigration system through the scam of 'birth tourism.'
## Center claimed 1,000+ American births
The facility primarily marketed services to Chinese clients and claimed responsibility for over 1,000 American-born babies. It operated from at least four Houston-area properties.
## Center coached clients on visa evasion
Paxton's lawsuit alleged the center advised women to apply for visas before pregnancy to reduce scrutiny and coached clients on how to evade U.S. immigration restrictions.
## Multiple legal violations alleged
Paxton accused De'Ai and operators Lin Suling and Lai Wan Lin-Chan of deceptive trade practices, tampering with governmental records, unlawful harboring and concealment, and other Texas law violations.
## Birthright citizenship remains unchanged
The U.S. Supreme Court confirmed in June that children born in the U.S. to unlawfully or temporarily present parents are citizens under the Fourteenth Amendment. The Texas judgment does not revoke citizenship from previously born children.
## Other Texas facilities under investigation
Paxton's office is also investigating Mission Regional Medical Center and Knapp Medical Center in South Texas over separate birth-tourism allegations.
## Key takeaway

Texas successfully shut down a birth tourism operation that had facilitated over 1,000 births by coaching foreign nationals on visa evasion tactics.
