## Ian Noe's Routine
Ian Noe wakes up in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where he's lived for almost a decade, makes coffee, smokes cigarettes, and works on songs until noon.
## Ian Noe's Disappearance
After releasing his 2022 album River Fools & Mountain Saints, Noe canceled shows and disappeared from public view.
## Canyon Falls Trailer Band
Noe's new 16-song album features a fictional band named Canyon Falls Trailer Band, described as an 'Appalachian Sgt. Pepper'.
## Songwriting Themes
Noe's songs explore grief, despair, and weary hope, inspired by real people in eastern Kentucky, including stories about cancer, Christmas tree fires, and wayward cousins.
## Experimental Approach
Noe's 2019 song 'Barbara's Song' tells the last moments of a passenger train crash from the locomotive's perspective, with no choruses in some tracks.
## Jukebox Blues
Noe's song 'Jukebox Blues (For Blaze Foley)' is about a jukebox sick of playing the same songs at a honky-tonk, with double meaning for Noe's mother.
## Bible County
Noe's song 'Bible County' tells the story of a lesbian hiding in a barn and jumping off a bridge due to small-town prejudice.
## Album Creation
Canyon Falls Trailer Band took four years of reclusion, with Noe re-recording the album after scrapping a 2024 version with Nashville collaborators.
## Isolation
Noe describes isolation as the toughest part of his creative process, saying he can go days without speaking to anyone while writing.
## Lyrical Perfectionism
Noe second-guesses lyrics on Canyon Falls Trailer Band, like changing 'rocking' to 'knocking' for better pronunciation.
## Recording Process
Noe regularly records songs at Tokic's Bomb Shelter studio in Nashville, with dozens of unreleased tracks and re-recorded versions.
## Jukebox Blues Re-recording
Noe re-recorded 'Jukebox Blues' to get the melody with a fiddle right, saying it was 'obsessed' with the right sound.
## What Happens Next
Noe says he wants to make up for lost time and release more music in the next few years after this album.
## Key takeaway

Ian Noe released 'Canyon Falls Trailer Band' after a four-year absence, exploring themes of small-town prejudice and personal grief through sparse, experimental country-folk songs.
