## Ilford upgrades Delta 400 film
Ilford has released a limited-edition Collector's Edition of its Delta 400 Professional 35mm film with a new all-black cassette and carton design.
## Clearer base improves image quality
The film uses a clearer roll-film base with anti-halation protection for the first time on Ilford's black-and-white 35mm stock, improving sharpness, dynamic range, and shadow detail.
## Same speed, same workflow
The limited edition keeps Delta 400's ISO 400 speed, familiar characteristics, and processing times unchanged, so existing users need not alter their shooting or developing routine.
## No premium price tag
Ilford is pricing the Collector's Edition at the same cost as standard Delta 400 Professional, around $15.99 per roll in the US and £15.99 in the UK.
## This is a test run
Ilford indicated on Instagram that this limited release is a test to gauge demand for the clearer base, with potential for a permanent version if response is positive.
## Permanent version would cost more
If demand justifies ongoing production, Ilford would likely charge a higher price for a permanent version due to the additional manufacturing complexity of the clearer base.
## Supplies are very limited
Ilford has emphasized that quantities are extremely limited and the film will only be available while stocks last, making this a genuine scarcity.
## Perfect for digitizing negatives
The improvements in sharpness and scanning performance make this version particularly valuable for photographers who regularly scan their film negatives into digital files.
## Key takeaway

Ilford's new Collector's Edition Delta 400 uses a clearer film base for the first time, improving sharpness and scanning, at the same price as standard film.
