## Illinois suddenly in the mix
Five-star center Darius Wabbington moved his official visit to Illinois from late October to this weekend. The 6-foot-11 senior is the second-ranked center in the nation.
## Wabbington's original top six
In late June, Wabbington listed Arizona, Kentucky, North Carolina, Texas, Louisville and Indiana as his top schools. Illinois wasn't mentioned, and Brad Underwood hadn't even extended an offer.
## Illini stormed into recruitment
By mid-August, Wabbington had scheduled an Illinois visit, signaling mutual interest. The Illini had entered his recruitment without a reported offer on the table.
## Moving up the visit matters
Wabbington pushed his Champaign visit ahead of his Indiana trip, suggesting Illinois might be near the top of his list. Five-star recruits rarely visit schools without offers during their senior year.
## No offer yet, but interest clear
As of Tuesday, Illinois still hadn't extended a formal offer to Wabbington. But the fact he's visiting without one shows genuine interest from both sides.
## Illinois needs frontcourt help
The Illini are losing both Ivisic twins and could lose David Mirkovic to the NBA. Wabbington would fill a critical need in the paint for the 2027-28 season.
## Wabbington's size and skills
At 6-foot-11 and 255 pounds, Wabbington can handle the ball, shoot from deep, post up and pass. He's remarkably polished and versatile for a player his age.
## Perfect fit for Underwood
Brad Underwood excels at tailoring offenses to players' strengths. Wabbington's diverse skill set would let Underwood showcase his offensive creativity better than any other program.
## Illinois must make it clear
Whether or not an offer comes first, Illinois needs to convince Wabbington they desperately want him in orange and blue. The early visit is a chance to make that case.
## No bad sign here
Even if Wabbington simply rescheduled for logistical reasons, moving up his visit to Illinois is positive momentum for the Illini's recruiting efforts.
## Key takeaway

Wabbington moving up his Illinois visit from late October signals serious mutual interest, even without an official offer yet.
