## India's Steel Imports
India imported finished steel worth Rs 36,193.9 crore during April-August of the current fiscal, remaining a net importer of the commodity.

China, Korea, Japan, Indonesia and Vietnam contributed significantly to the total 3.487.3 million tonne finished steel imports, up 29.5 per cent from April-August FY26.
## Import Value Increase
The cost of inbound shipment of finished steel to India was Rs 36,193.9 crore, 38.3 per cent higher than Rs 26,172.6 crore in the year-ago period.
## August Import Data
In August alone, India imported 0.72 million tonnes of finished steel worth Rs 7,863.1 crore, 9 per cent higher than August 2025.
## Export Growth
India's exports of finished steel rose 34.1 per cent year-on-year to 2.98 million tonnes worth Rs 23,646.6 crore from April-August FY26.
## Top Export Destinations
Vietnam was the top export destination, followed by UAE, Italy, Belgium and Nepal for India's finished steel exports.
