## Indonesia exceeds ozone targets
Indonesia announced it had exceeded international targets for phasing out ozone-depleting substances, achieving a reduction rate of 72.66 percent by 2025 at the 38th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol in Kigali, Rwanda.
## Harmful chemicals targeted
Indonesia focused on controlling hydrofluorocarbons and hydrochlorofluorocarbons, substances used in refrigeration, solvents and foam manufacturing with global warming potentials thousands of times greater than carbon dioxide.
## HCFC phase-out exceeds target
Indonesia's HCFC phase-out rate exceeded the Montreal Protocol target of 67.5 percent. Deputy Ary Sudijanto said the country must translate Kigali's spirit into concrete action by fulfilling commitments to reduce HFCs.

> We must translate the spirit of Kigali into concrete action by fulfilling our commitment to reduce HFCs, accelerating access to safe, low-GWP and energy-efficient technologies, and strengthening financial and technical support for developing countries.
## Training and enforcement drive progress
Indonesia trained 945 Customs and Excise officers to monitor imports of ozone-depleting substances and certified 4,319 refrigeration and air conditioning technicians and 397 instructors to strengthen enforcement and workforce capacity.
## Industrial transition to cleaner alternatives
Indonesia secured approval from the Multilateral Fund's Executive Committee for an energy-efficiency project targeting domestic refrigerator manufacturers to transition from HFC-134a to natural hydrocarbons, reducing environmental impacts.
## Next phase: HFC reduction by 2029
Indonesia is preparing to reduce HFC consumption by at least 10 percent from baseline beginning January 1, 2029, equivalent to 2.3 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.
## Key takeaway

Indonesia exceeded Montreal Protocol targets for phasing out ozone-depleting substances, achieving a 72.66 percent reduction rate by 2025 through systematic implementation and workforce training.
