## Dujuan weakens then strengthens again
Tropical Storm Dujuan briefly reached typhoon status on Friday before weakening to a tropical storm on Sunday morning. It is expected to restrengthen back to a typhoon by Tuesday morning.
## Dangerous winds expected near Japan
When Dujuan restrenthens, sustained winds could reach eighty mph, with gusts approaching one hundred mph as the system moves across the region.
## Izu Islands face direct threat
Although mainland Japan has avoided a direct hit, Dujuan's track takes it across the Izu Islands, where evacuation warnings are in place. Heavy rain, flooding and landslide alerts are widespread.
## Exceptional rainfall expected in hours
About two hundred millimetres is possible along southern coasts of Chubu and Kanto regions in just twenty four hours. The Izu peninsula could receive more than eighty millimetres in just three hours.
## Tokyo faces heavy rain Monday evening
The Tokyo metropolitan area is among areas facing the heaviest rain, with some models suggesting nearly ninety millimetres could fall within six hours on Monday evening.
## Dujuan to dissipate in Pacific
Dujuan is expected to continue north-eastwards before dissipating in the north-west Pacific later this week as it moves away from Japan.
## Key takeaway

Tropical Storm Dujuan is forecast to become a typhoon again by Tuesday morning, bringing sustained winds of eighty mph and exceptional rainfall to Japan's Izu Islands and coastal regions.
