## J-Law finally shows up
Jennifer Lawrence opened an Instagram account and pulled in 4 million followers within 24 hours. Her debut video was filmed in a white robe.

> So yeah, I'm giving it a shot
## One rule, impossible to keep
Her opening promise was a joke with a real edge: a single negative comment and the account is over. She claims she will sense the mean thoughts too.

> If anyone says anything negative, I will quit immediately. No questions asked.
## I'm the baby
Her first Story was white text on black, asking people not to upset the baby. The punchline is that the baby is her.

> Please be mindful that any mean or aggressive comments can negatively affect the baby. It's me. I'm the baby.
## Her first real account
She has run an activism-focused X account under @JLawrence_RepUs, and admitted to lurking on private accounts. This is her first genuine public presence.
## Why she stayed away
Back in 2018 she told Time that the volume of opinion online was not worth inviting in. The new account walks that line with a joke instead of a wall.

> I don't want to put myself out there for no reason.
## A very loud year ahead
She returns briefly as Katniss in the Hunger Games prequel, and stars with Leonardo DiCaprio in Scorsese's What Happens at Night, a couple unravelling in a frozen European town.
## Key takeaway

Lawrence spent years avoiding social media, and she joined on her own joking terms, with a rule that no comment section can actually follow.
