## Coach backs his player
One day after Josh Jacobs was convicted of battering a woman, Matt LaFleur told reporters his feelings about the running back had not changed.

> I know the guy. And I know the character of the guy.
## An unfortunate situation
Pressed on why, LaFleur fell back on character and circumstance rather than the conduct itself, calling it something that just happens in life.

> And unfortunately situations occur in life, and it's just an unfortunate situation.
## What the video showed
Charged on Aug. 27, Jacobs was accused of grabbing his girlfriend and throwing her to the ground at his Brown County home in May, injuring her and damaging her phone.

> threw her to the ground
## He said yes in court
A judge asked Jacobs whether the probable cause section of the complaint was true and correct. He answered yes, then pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery and criminal damage.
## A fine, not a sentence
Jacobs drew a $1,000 fine plus costs for battery, with the property damage sentence suspended. His lawyers pointed to his years of community work in the NFL.

> Josh has accepted responsibility for his conduct and resolved this matter
## The league decides next
Asked why Jacobs is still on the roster, LaFleur shut the question down. Jacobs has been barred from practice or games on the commissioner's exempt list since Aug. 30.

> I'm not going to get into any of this until the league completes their investigation.
## Key takeaway

Jacobs admitted the facts and took a $1,000 fine, but his football future now sits with the NFL, not the Packers.
