## Superhero Adaptation Trend
Superhero shows have long copied existing hits like True Detective and Slow Horses, starting with Stranger Things.

> The Batman was just Seven in Gotham City
## Lanterns Starts as Copy
Lanterns first four episodes mimic True Detective and Slow Horses but lack their emotional depth and intrigue.

> The mystery is nowhere near as intriguing as the murder case in True Detective
## Lanterns Changes Mid-Season
After episode five, Lanterns shifts focus to Hal and John's relationship, creating emotional energy and meaning.

> Once chaos arrives in Rushville, Nebraska and John and Hal finally come to blows
## Relationship Deepens
Lanterns episode seven shows John investigating Hal's death with the Halogram, forging a deeper bond than in previous seasons.

> John and this younger, less cynical Hal still clash, they also forge the kind of bond
## Emotional Climax
The Halogram misunderstands John's words and tells him he loves him, resolving the season's emotional conflict.

## Superhero Adaptation Lesson
Lanterns proves superhero shows should evolve beyond copying existing hits to explore meaningful relationships.

> It's just a shame it took the show seven episodes to get there
## Key takeaway

Lanterns initially mimics True Detective and Slow Horses but evolves into a meaningful relationship story by episode 7.
