## Anwar confirms the talks
Speaking in New Delhi, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia is looking at buying India's BrahMos air-to-surface missile system.
## No decision yet
He was blunt that the discussions are still open and nothing has been signed. This is an exploration, not a purchase.
## It came up with Modi
The subject was raised during Anwar's bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the sidelines of the Brics summit in New Delhi.
## The Air Force decides
Anwar said he defers to the people with the expertise. Malaysia's Air Force has already held initial discussions and will be the one to carry them forward.

> normally my position is always to get the departments or agencies concerned, those having the expertise in the Air Force
## Built on trust
Anwar told Modi he backs the idea, framing it as part of cementing the Malaysia-India relationship across every field. He also acknowledged India's defence capabilities.

> this relationship is build on trust and we want to cement it in all fields
## What BrahMos actually is
A long-range, ramjet-powered supersonic cruise missile that can fire from submarines, ships, fighter jets or a mobile launcher. It is an India-Russia joint venture between DRDO and NPO Mashinostroyeniya.
## Key takeaway

Malaysia is in early talks to buy BrahMos missiles from India, but nothing is decided and the Royal Malaysian Air Force will make the technical call.
