## A RM4.2 billion claim lands
Four companies in liquidation have filed a compensation claim of about RM4.2 billion against DBS Bank in the Singapore High Court. Malaysia's finance ministry says it is watching closely.
## Money taken from 1MDB and SRC
The damages relate to funds allegedly misappropriated from 1Malaysia Development Bhd and SRC International. Court-appointed liquidators are running the companies bringing the suit.
## Anwar frames it as trust
The prime minister, who is also finance minister, says recovery is not only about money. He points to damaged institutions and Malaysia's reputation with international partners.

> Trust, confidence in institutions and Malaysia's standing in the eyes of its international partners were also compromised
## Five accounts, one name
The task force says five DBS accounts were opened in 2013 by the four companies. Documents named Tan Kim Loong, known as Eric Tan, as sole beneficial owner and signatory on all five.
## A billion dollars moved
Those accounts allegedly channelled more than US$1 billion, about RM4.07 billion, in misappropriated 1MDB and SRC funds between 2013 and 2014.
## The bill so far
Total 1MDB obligations carried by the government stand at RM51.4 billion. RM42.5 billion has been paid, RM8.9 billion is still outstanding debt.
## RM20 billion still lost
Asset recovery has brought back RM31.3 billion. Even after that, the government is looking at roughly RM20 billion in potential losses from the scandal.

> leaving the government to bear potential losses of RM20 billion as a result of the 1MDB scandal
## The hunt spans four countries
Cases and cooperation run through the United States, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Singapore. JPMorganChase settled in August 2025 with RM1.4 billion into the recovery trust account.
## Key takeaway

Malaysia has clawed back RM31.3 billion of 1MDB money, but is still about RM20 billion out of pocket, so every new claim matters.
