## Crazy Taxi gets a film
Netflix is developing a feature film treatment for Sega's Crazy Taxi, the arcade game that launched in 1999 and put players behind the wheel of a reckless cabbie beating the clock.
## The Naked Gun duo writes it
Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who wrote the 2025 Naked Gun reboot, are scripting. Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher of Original Film produce alongside Sega head producer Toru Nakahara.
## Sonic becomes a series
Netflix and Sega are also building a new animated Sonic series with Carlos Stevens and Nakahara. The franchise started in the 1990s and has kept selling ever since.
## A crime story in old Japan
The third title is Stranger Than Heaven from RGG Studio, set in early 20th-century Japan, heading to Netflix as a live-action film with Nakahara producing again.
## Three genres, one deal
The slate spans live-action comedy, kids' animation and live-action crime, a deliberate spread across Sega's catalog rather than three bets on the same audience.

> we get to work across three completely different eras of Sega's catalog
## Fandom is the real asset
Netflix already has Assassin's Creed, Gears of War, Minecraft, Magic: The Gathering and Clash of Clans in development or out. Sega wants its players moved onto the platform.

> Great games already have what every adaptation is chasing, characters people love, worlds they know by heart, and fandoms that show up.
## Key takeaway

Netflix is betting that built-in game fandoms are cheaper to win over than brand new characters, and Sega just gave it three eras of catalog to try that on.
