Amazon's fall Prime Day runs Oct. 6 and 7, two days of deals across tech, tools, home essentials and everyday basics.

## A smaller second Prime Day
This is the scaled-down version of the summer event. Discounts span hundreds of categories, and most are locked to Prime members, with only a few open to everyone.
## Membership costs $139
A Prime membership runs $139 a year and unlocks the limited-time price cuts and Lightning Deals on Amazon's most popular products. New sign-ups get a 30-day free trial.
## Watch the Lightning Deals
Look for the red "Lightning Deal" label. Those discounts go deeper but run on a timer and sell out quickly, so hesitating usually costs you the price.

## Set alerts before it starts
Turn on Amazon deal notifications and add items to a watchlist so you can track prices instead of refreshing all day.
## AirPods Pro 3 at $199
Down from $249, with Active Noise Cancellation, Spatial Audio and up to eight hours of battery. A reader favorite for commuting, travel and workouts.
## DeWalt tools, deeply cut
The jigsaw drops to about $132 from $239, with a work light and variable-speed trigger. The cordless drill and impact driver set is $169, down from $239.
## Kitchen picks under $400
The KitchenAid Artisan 5-quart mixer is $399.99, a $100 cut, and handles nine dozen cookies per batch. The Nespresso Vertuo with frother is $167.95, down from $239.95.
## Luggage for holiday travel
Samsonite's Freeform set, a large suitcase plus carry-on, falls to $272.51 from $479.99. Spinner wheels and compression straps for the airport rush.
## Key takeaway

Set up your Prime membership and deal alerts before Oct. 6, because the steepest Lightning Deals sell out fast.
