I had a nasty fall on the river rocks on my return trip, but my knee pain vanished when I saw this photo ## Challenging Cave Photography He crossed a rushing river to find the perfect angle without disturbing the area, using a fast shutter speed of 1/250 sec on his Nikon D500. ## Technical Achievement The photo froze the oilbird mid-flight with 1/1250 sec exposure, f/5, ISO 8000, capturing details of the bird's plumage in low light. ## Judge's Praise Sebastian Herzog called the photo technically complex, highlighting its ability to show the oilbird's details without flash in challenging cave lighting. ## Award Details The Audubon Photography Awards celebrate photographers highlighting bird beauty and threats across Chile, Colombia, Canada, and the United States. ## Key takeaway Faber Mosquera Álvarez's oilbird photo won the Birds in Landscapes category at the Audubon Photography Awards.
