## New GM Announcement
Mike Elias will formally announce Jared Bowman as the Orioles new general manager next Tuesday with a press conference.
## Elias's Shallow Approach
Elias claims to have learned lessons after throwing out Matt Blood and hiring a new player development maven while keeping his assistant GMs.
## The 39 Games Problem
The Orioles are 39 games behind the AL East pace due to poor player evaluation, roster construction and contract negotiations.
## It Is Not
Elias's changes won't fix the Orioles' problems as they remain 39 games behind the AL East pace.
## Be Proactive
Elias constantly negotiates expensive contracts and waits to see if bargains fall through the cracks before making trades.
## Defense Matters
Elias ignores advanced fielding metrics despite claiming to value them.
## Let Someone Else Negotiate
Elias handles all contract negotiations alone without proper support from his team.
## Elias's Weak Leadership
Elias and his assistant GM Sig Mejdal lack basic people skills and communication.
## Key Changes Needed
Elias must make major moves at Winter Meetings to ship out Gunnar Henderson and Jackson Holliday.
## The 3 Fundamental Changes
Elias must become proactive in trade negotiations, value defense metrics, and delegate contract negotiations.
## What Happens Next
Elias's new GM role won't matter unless he makes three fundamental changes to the Orioles organization.
## Key takeaway

Orioles' new GM Jared Bowman won't improve the team without Mike Elias making three fundamental changes to player development, contract negotiations, and trade strategy.
