## A creepier look at Crystal Lake
Peacock released a full trailer for its Friday the 13th prequel series, and the new details lean hard into dread rather than gore.
## Cardellini plays the mother
Linda Cardellini takes on Pamela Voorhees, mother of the franchise's unkillable killer, long before the hockey mask exists.
## 1971, before the legend
The series is set in 1971 and opens with Pam working at Camp Crystal Lake as a lunch lady. Ordinary job, ordinary life.
## Then Jason drowns
Her son's drowning is the hinge the whole story turns on. Everything that made the franchise starts as one mother's loss.
## She refuses to grieve
A local cop, played by William Catlett, tries to help her move on. Pam is not interested in moving on.

> I don't want to heal. I want to find my son.
## Waking up beside a knife
Convinced Jason is still out in the woods, Pam appears to start dissociating. At one point she wakes with a very large knife beside her.
## Key takeaway

Crystal Lake bets the franchise on Pam Voorhees, tracing how a grieving mother stops looking for her son and starts hunting.
