## Motion passed at Brighton conference
The Green Party conference in Brighton backed a motion describing Zionism as racism. About one thousand members voted in favour and some eight hundred against.
## Polanski won't overturn it until 2028
Green Party leader Zack Polanski said he won't try to overturn the motion. Party rules mean policy voted on at conference stands for two years, so amendment cannot happen until twenty twenty-eight.

> You can't within the rules. So when you vote on something in our party conference, that's then policy for two years.
## Polanski defends the motion
Polanski insisted the motion isn't controversial and said what is controversial is that seventy five thousand Palestinians have been murdered in recent years, including more child amputees than ever in modern history.

> I think what's controversial is that 75,000 Palestinians have been murdered in the last few years, including more child amputees than ever in modern history.
## Approval ratings plummet
Polanski's popularity has fallen sharply. An October Ipsos survey found fifty two percent of the public held an unfavourable view of him, with just sixteen percent positive. His overall rating fell to minus thirty six.
## Calls for resignation mount
Vivien Lichtenstein, leader of the Jewish Greens, called for Polanski to resign, saying he made a big mistake by missing debate on the motion. Former leader Caroline Lucas accused him of failure in leadership.
## Key takeaway

Green Party leader Zack Polanski says the party's motion describing Zionism as racism cannot be amended until 2028 under party rules, despite facing calls to resign.
