## What is Sanity's Edge?
Sanity's Edge was a voice bulletin board system accessible only by telephone from 1994 to March 1997.
## How it started
Max, a ten-year-old, built the system using a BigMouth voice card and SDK with his father's help.
## The sysop
Max's father became Dr. Null, the sysop, who wrote the database backend for the BBS.
## The phone number
The board used Max's bedroom phone line, 813-989-1950, with three or four lines in the house.
## The economic plan
Members paid about five dollars monthly for the service, with an even/odd-day economic plan.
## The asylum theme
The BBS was called an asylum with message bases as therapy rooms and public forums as the 'Men in White Jackets'.
## The message bases
Nine rooms in the asylum, each with its own purpose, where patients left voice messages.
## The callers
Over 60 real people registered, leaving voice messages for the BBS from 1994 to 1997.
## The technology
The system ran on a 286 PC with a Talking Technology Powerline I telephony card.
## The audio archive
2,254 audio files were decoded in February 2026, preserving 24 hours and 24 minutes of voice messages.
## The 2026 remake
A 2026 remake of the BBS allows users to interact with the original voice system.
## The legacy
The BBS preserved over 26,000 calls and 46,000 voice messages from 1994 to 1:00 PM on March 1997.
## Key takeaway

Sanity's Edge, a 1994 Tampa voice BBS, preserved 26,188 calls and 46,610 voice messages through AI decoding in 2026.
