## Two new ACOTAR books announced
Sarah J. Maas revealed the sixth and seventh books in her A Court of Thorns and Roses series on August 17, 2026. Book six, A Court of Splintered Harmony, releases October 27, 2026, and book seven, A Court of Forgotten Melody, arrives January 12, 2027.
## Publisher Bloomsbury needed this
Bloomsbury's sales fell 10% in the 2025-2026 fiscal year because Maas didn't release a new book. The publisher has been waiting for these novels since announcing a three-book deal with Maas in March 2023.
## Maas kept the project secret
Maas first announced book six and seven in March 2026 on the Call Her Daddy podcast but stayed quiet about details until August. She explained the nontraditional release structure made her hesitant to share information earlier.
## The story spans four parts
Maas wrote the sixth ACOTAR book as one cohesive story divided into four parts, with part one becoming 400 pages. She decided not to follow traditional book formatting because the story needed over 1,000 pages total.

> "I decided I wasn't gonna approach this project from a traditional format of a book."
## Release schedule for all parts
Part one releases October 27, 2026 as A Court of Splintered Harmony. Parts two and three release together January 12, 2027 as A Court of Forgotten Melody. Part four has no publication date yet but will come soon after.
## Book six focuses on Koschei
A Court of Splintered Harmony is 352 pages and subtitled The Valkyrie Cycle: Movement I. The Night Court faces threats from Koschei the Deathless, a legendary monster, and those allied with him seeking the newly freed human lands.

> "What was broken will be remade."
## Internal conflict threatens the Night Court
The book description mentions recent betrayals and revealed truths creating tension within the Night Court. These conflicts must be resolved if the court hopes to defeat Koschei and his forces.
## Book seven is much longer
A Court of Forgotten Melody is 896 pages and subtitled The Valkyrie Cycle: Movements II and III. The Night Court travels far and wide to fight Koschei and nightmares from the past that have risen to battle alongside him.

> "What was lost will be reclaimed."
## A Stygian Spider appears
The cover of A Court of Forgotten Melody features what appears to be a Stygian Spider, an ancient Valg monster from Maas' Throne of Glass series. The spider also displays an eight-pointed star from the Crescent City universe.
## Lucien gets a major role
Bloomsbury released a quote from A Court of Splintered Harmony showing Lucien Vanserra's perspective. Lucien has been a supporting character but has an unaccepted mating bond with Elain Archeron and connections to Koschei.

> "Lucien's heart thundered, throat drying out. Maybe this had been a terrible idea."
## The Valkyrie will be central
The novels are part of The Valkyrie Cycle, so Nesta Archeron, Gwyn, and Emerie will likely be central. These three brought the legendary all-female fighting squad back to life in A Court of Silver Flames.
## Nesta's betrayal may spark conflict
Nesta lent Bryce Quinlan the Dread Trove mask without Rhysand's permission in House of Flame and Shadow. This could be the recent betrayal mentioned in book six's description that creates tension in the Night Court.
## The Dusk Court connection
Bryce gifted Nesta the sword Gwydion and told her to explore why her eight-pointed star tattoo matches it. The Dusk Court was resurrected in House of Flame and Shadow, and exploring it fits A Court of Forgotten Melody's title.

> "I think that eight-pointed star was tattooed on you for a reason. Take that sword and go figure out why."
## Elain's story still pending
Maas told Eva Chen in 2021 she planned to write a book from Elain Archeron's perspective. Elain has refused her mating bond with Lucien and seems attracted to Azriel, creating romantic tension.
## Azriel and Gwyn's bond may develop
Azriel rescued Gwyn after she was assaulted, and his shadows seemed drawn to her in A Court of Silver Flames. With Gwyn central to The Valkyrie Cycle, their bond could deepen in the new books.
## Key takeaway

ACOTAR book six arrives October 2026 as part one of a four-part story, with parts two and three releasing together in January 2027, focusing on the Valkyrie and a threat from Koschei the Deathless.
