## Sony promised three updates
When Sony announced the Xperia 10 VI over two years ago with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset and Android 14, it promised three major OS updates including Android 17.
## Storage problem blocks the upgrade
Sony says a detailed technical assessment found that limitations related to the device's storage configuration mean the Xperia 10 VI does not support an adequate Android 17 upgrade experience.

## Android 17 update cancelled
Sony has decided not to make the Android 17 upgrade available for the Xperia 10 VI and apologized that the decision falls short of its original announcement.

## Security updates continue through 2028
While OS updates end, Sony will continue providing four years of security updates for the Xperia 10 VI, extending until June 2028. The issue affects only this model, not other Xperia devices.
## Key takeaway

Sony will not release Android 17 for the Xperia 10 VI due to storage constraints, breaking its original promise of three major OS updates.
