## Stuck vs dead pixels
A stuck pixel still emits light (appearing blue, green, red, or a mix) and has power flowing through it. A dead pixel appears black and is usually permanent.

> If your errant pixel still has light emanating from behind it, appearing blue, green, red or a combination of the three instead of just consistently black, chances are its a stuck pixel, and there's still hope for your screen.
## Why pixels get stuck
Physical damage from drops, hard pressure on the screen, power surges, extreme temperatures, and simple aging can all cause stuck pixels. Manufacturing defects may cause multiple pixels to fail.
## Software fixes are safest
Programs like JScreenFix and PixelHealer use rapid color cycling to reset the stuck transistor. This is the easiest method and carries no risk of additional damage.

> The rapid color cycling of these tools is designed to help cycle the pixel's transistor and unstick it.
## Pressure method requires care
Use a soft tool like a pen cap or stylus covered with a microfiber cloth. Apply light pressure to the stuck pixel area with the screen off, then power on to check if it worked.

> Cover your tool with the barrier, then with the screen off, locate the area with the dead pixel and apply light pressure.
## Heat is the last resort
Warm a cloth (not hot) and place it on the stuck pixel area for a few minutes with the screen off, then power on. Take longer breaks between attempts to avoid overheating internal components.
## Try rest first
Before attempting any fixes, turn off your device for a day or so. Sometimes a stuck pixel resets on its own without intervention.
## When warranty might help
A single stuck pixel may not qualify for warranty replacement, but a cluster of them might. Multiple failures suggest a manufacturing defect rather than random damage.

> Whether or not the manufacturer will replace the device can sometimes be dependent upon if it's a recurring issue or not.
## Key takeaway

Stuck pixels still have power flowing through them, unlike dead pixels, which means they can potentially be fixed using software, pressure, or heat techniques.
