## Woman sentenced for killing abusive husband
Nirmeen Noufl, 55, was sentenced to at least three years in jail on Friday after pleading guilty to killing her husband Mamdouh in excessive self-defence while being choked and assaulted in their Sydney home.
## Decades of violence and control
Over 22 years of marriage, Mamdouh Noufl subjected his wife to slapping, pushing, spitting and psychological manipulation. Days before his death in mid-2023, he told her he planned to marry another woman but refused her request for divorce.
## The fatal confrontation
When Mamdouh returned home after announcing his plan to remarry, they argued and he assaulted her, choking her as he pinned her to the ground. Noufl stabbed him once in the chest, she later told psychiatrists.

> All my life … he just treated me like shit, spat at me. I had enough.
## Thorough and brutal disposal
Noufl dismembered her husband's body using a saw and disposed of it in multiple garbage bags across south-west Sydney. His body was never found. Justice Peter Hamill called the disposal 'as thorough as it was brutal.'

> Disposal of the body in this case was as thorough as it was brutal.
## Abuse history mitigates sentence
The judge found Noufl's traumatic childhood and sustained domestic violence substantially reduced the seriousness of the killing. However, the dismemberment raised questions about remorse and was relevant to sentencing.
## Family divided over her fate
Six of the couple's eight children testified about their father's violence toward their mother. But Mamdouh's nephew called him a 'shining light' and argued outside court that Noufl should have received a much longer sentence.
## Parole eligible in October 2027
With time served since her October 2024 arrest, Noufl will be eligible for parole in October 2027. Her daughter told the court she would return from abroad to help her mother attend psychiatric appointments after release.
## Key takeaway

Nirmeen Noufl's case highlights how sustained domestic abuse can lead to fatal confrontations, and how the disposal of a body can paradoxically help a defendant by making their account harder to disprove.
