## Taylor McGregor's move
Taylor McGregor, Marquee Sports Network’s field reporter for Cubs broadcasts, is leaving the network to join ESPN full-time.
## Why she joined Chicago
Initially, Taylor McGregor wasn’t interested in coming to Chicago to be the lead field reporter for the Cubs’ fledgling Marquee Sports Network. She was happy doing the same job for the Rockies, her hometown team.
## Colleagues' influence
But colleagues set her straight, pointing to the Cubs’ draw and stature in baseball.
## Her decision
‘They were like, ‘You’re insane. You have to go after this,’ ’ McGregor told the Sun-Times in March. ‘I said, ‘OK, you’re right.’ I ended up flying out, and I remember landing in Chicago and being like, not only am I going to put myself up for this job, but I think I’m going to get this job.’

## Seven years later
Seven years later, having made an indelible mark on Cubs broadcasts, McGregor, 33, is leaving Marquee to join ESPN full-time.
## Tearful announcement
She made the announcement tearfully on the air during the Cubs’ home finale Thursday.
## Her words
‘I’m going to try to get through this without crying,’ she said, sitting between Jon Sciambi and Jim Deshaies in the broadcast booth. ‘Today is my last broadcast with Marquee and the Cubs. I am leaving to take a full-time role with ESPN. There’s so much that I want to say and I will say eventually, but this has been the ride of a lifetime. … Every day was a joy.’

## Post-announcement plans
McGregor is expected to contribute to Marquee’s postseason coverage. The network will look to replace her for next season, but the rest of the crew will return.
## Continuing role
McGregor, who said she’ll remain in Chicago, will continue as a sideline reporter on ESPN’s college-football coverage, a role she has held since joining the network in 2019 as a part-timer.
## Colin Faulkner's praise
‘Anyone who has watched her work, both with us and increasingly on ESPN, can see that she is a rising star in the industry,’ said Colin Faulkner, Cubs chief commercial officer, who’s overseeing Marquee’s operations.

## Broadcast chemistry
McGregor was delightful on broadcasts, whether it was delivering news or bantering with the boys in the booth. Broadcasts were at their best with Sciambi, Deshaies and McGregor on the air.
## Replacement challenges
It won’t be easy for Marquee to recapture that chemistry. The network could consider Menaker for the job, but she has worn many hats on the air, serving as a game analyst and studio analyst in addition to being a field reporter.
## Marquee's situation
Last December, it made significant cuts to its digital-content team and is now operating without a general manager.
## Key takeaway

Taylor McGregor, Marquee Sports Network's field reporter for Cubs broadcasts, is leaving to join ESPN full-time after seven years with the network.
