## Traitors returns with a fishy surprise
The first challenge of Traitors: New Blood had contestants searching waterlogged crates for gold. Three held treasure chests with ten thousand dollars each, but one mysteriously contained raw salmon on a silver platter.
## An inside joke from last season
Alan Cumming credits a production team member with the salmon gag. It was a playful reference to how much contestants obsessed over smoked salmon at breakfast during the previous season.

> It was a little 'in' joke because it was so hilarious how much the salmon became a thing at breakfast last year.
## Salmon was breakfast table gold
Contestants from season four scrambled each morning to grab smoked salmon, which was the most edible and delicious item available. It became so coveted that it rivaled actually surviving the game.

> We would all be scrambling to get the salmon because it was the most edible and delicious thing at the breakfast table.
## Why salmon matters for the game
Salmon is packed with protein and omega-3 fatty acids, making it ideal fuel for contestants facing physical challenges and high-stress strategy sessions around the Round Table.
## Watch Traitors live on Peacock
Traitors: New Blood streams live on Peacock every Thursday at eight p.m. Eastern Time, with new episodes revealing more surprises and strategy.
