## Two trailers spotted in the wrong place
A PlusAI executive received a text on Thursday morning saying two of the company's trucks had been spotted near Newark, California. The trailers should have been at PlusAI's warehouse, half a mile away.
## Trailers bore Nvidia and PlusAI logos
Police responded to recover the two trailers, which were emblazoned with logos for PlusAI and Nvidia, the most valuable company in the world. The two companies are working together on AI software and autonomous truck technology.
## The trailers held only sand
When PlusAI employees told police why the thieves abandoned the trailers after breaking them open, the reason became clear: each trailer was full of about twenty thousand pounds of sand.
## Sand was used for testing
PlusAI uses simulated loads in its trailers to assist with research and development testing, according to company spokesperson Lauren Kwan. The trailers were recovered with forty thousand pounds of sand intact.

## Part of a wider theft wave
The incident comes as thieves increasingly target high-value computer equipment, especially chips and electronics for data centers. In August, thieves struck security escort vehicles carrying high-value tech loads, with millions of dollars of equipment still unrecovered.
## Trailers recovered by Thursday afternoon
By Thursday afternoon, the sand trailers were back with PlusAI, the Fremont Police Department said. The case remains under investigation and no arrests have been made.
## Key takeaway

Thieves stole two trailers marked with Nvidia and PlusAI logos from a Newark, California warehouse, but abandoned them after finding they held twenty thousand pounds of sand used for research testing.
