## FCC bans foreign router imports
In March, the Federal Communications Commission designated all consumer routers made outside the US as a security risk and banned imports. Retailers could still sell existing stock.
## TP-Link plans US assembly line
TP-Link signed a letter of intent with manufacturer Key Tronic to assemble routers at a Mississippi production line, pending regulatory approval. Production could start as soon as early twenty twenty seven.
## Components still sourced abroad
TP-Link says it will source components from outside the US because many are unavailable domestically. Steve Kovsky, TP-Link's corporate affairs officer, told PC Mag this is an issue for all manufacturers trying to onshore production.

> Many [components] are just not available from a domestic source, and this is not a TP-Link issue. This is an issue for all manufacturers that are trying to onshore manufacturing.
## Key takeaway

TP-Link will assemble routers in Mississippi starting early 2027 after the FCC banned imports of foreign-made routers as a security risk.
