## A woman on the property
On Friday evening a trespasser entered the Malibu cliffside home of former Vice President Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff. Private security stopped her before she reached the house.

## Nobody was home
Harris and Emhoff were away, said spokesperson Eduardo Negron, who declined to say where the couple were. They thanked the security and law enforcement who responded.
## Deputies arrived at 10:30
On-site security called the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, which covers Malibu. Deputies showed up around 10:30 p.m. The woman, still unidentified, agreed to leave and was not arrested.

## Trump ended the extension
Former vice presidents get six months of Secret Service coverage. Biden extended Harris' protection; Trump, who beat her in 2024, revoked that extension in August 2025.
## The LAPD walked away
California and Los Angeles agencies scrambled to fill the gap. The LAPD quit quickly after criticism that pulling officers onto Harris' detail was costing the city crime fighting capacity.
## A thinner net now
The California Highway Patrol still helps with Harris' detail, but CHP Sgt. Christian Stevens said its officers were not on site Friday night.
## Key takeaway

Harris' security is now a patchwork of local agencies after Trump revoked her extended Secret Service detail, and Friday night showed the seams.
