## Trump bans three outlets immediately
President Trump announced Friday he is banning MS NOW, CNN, and Politico from the White House effective immediately, citing their reporting on him.
## Trump accuses outlets of fiction
On Truth Social, Trump said media outlets should not write or report fiction and lies about the president. He promised more outlets would follow.

> Media Outlets shouldn't be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they're covering the President of the United States.
## CNN defends its reporting
CNN said its reporters remained in their White House workspace and stated the ban would be an illegal assault on their constitutional right to report.

> CNN stands fully behind our White House team and their fair and accurate reporting. We have a right under the U.S. Constitution to do that reporting without hindrance or interference from the government.
## Trump says outlets write negative news
Speaking in the Oval Office, Trump said he banned the outlets because of cumulative negative stories designed to diminish Republicans.

> They purposely write negative news. They do that because they want to try and diminish the Republicans.
## Pattern of press restrictions
The ban follows earlier Trump administration restrictions on reporters, including barring Associated Press from the Oval Office and replacing legacy outlets at the Pentagon.
## Outlets silent as story develops
MS NOW and Politico did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The story is breaking and will be updated as it develops.
## Key takeaway
