Bottoms beat Republican healthcare executive Rick Jackson by more than eight points, becoming Georgia's first Black governor and the first Black woman to win a governor's race in any U.S. state.
## Perry's Controversial Legal Cases
Variety called Perry's appointment controversial due to two lawsuits: a $260 million suit from Derek Dixon and a $77 million suit from Mario Rodriguez, both of which Perry denies.
## Perry's Deposition Date
Tyler Perry is set to sit for an in-person deposition in the Rodriguez case on December 9, and Bottoms will be sworn in as Georgia's 84th governor on January 11, 2027.
## Perry's Allegations
In June 2025, Derek Dixon sued Perry for $260 million, alleging repeated sexual battery and assault going back to 2021. Rodriguez filed a $77 million sexual battery suit in December 2025.
## Perry's Response
Perry denies the allegations in both cases and calls Rodriguez's suit a 'money grab' and a 'shakedown'.
