## VW ditches ID.4 for Tiguan nameplate
Volkswagen announced Monday it will replace the recently retired ID.4 crossover with the upcoming ID.Tiguan, betting familiar nameplates sell better to EV buyers than new ones.
## ID.4 sold 950,000 units since 2021
The ID.4, first introduced in 2020, was VW's push into mass-market EVs. It sold nine hundred fifty thousand units since two thousand twenty-one and ranks among the most successful battery-electric vehicle model series of Volkswagen AG.
## New Tiguan fixes ID.4 design flaws
The electric Tiguan will retain what worked about the ID.4 while correcting shortcomings, such as its frustrating lack of physical controls. VW plans buttons for all four windows and physical controls for volume and climate.

## ID.Tiguan gets ID.3 NEO interior design
The ID.Tiguan will have the same interior look as the ID.3 NEO and ID.Polo, which is a surprise sales hit in the EU. It will feature VW's Android Automotive-based operating system with a Gemini-powered voice assistant.
## European launch early 2027, US later
The ID.Tiguan will land in Europe in early two thousand twenty-seven, joining the ID.Polo and ID.Cross in VW's new electric lineup. VW confirmed it will come to the US, where the ID.4 was previously manufactured, at a later date.
## Key takeaway

Volkswagen is replacing the ID.4 with the ID.Tiguan, using a recognizable nameplate to boost EV sales while fixing design flaws like missing physical controls.
