## New call filtering feature
WhatsApp is developing a call filtering feature for Android users to choose how to handle unknown callers.
## Three call options
Users can select from three options: never, silence unknown callers, or answer to ask why they're calling.
## Private transcription
WhatsApp generates a private transcript of the caller's response without sharing it with servers.
## Local processing
Transcriptions use device language packs and end-to-end encryption to keep calls private.
## Apple's similar feature
Apple introduced call screening with iOS 26 to ask callers why they're calling.
## Current limitations
The existing feature blocks all unknown calls without letting users ask why they're calling.
## Future availability
WhatsApp will release the feature to beta testers in a future Android update.
## Key takeaway

WhatsApp is developing call filtering for Android so users can decide whether to silence, answer, or ask unknown callers why they're calling.
