## Dynamic Bottom Navigation Bar
WhatsApp will make the bottom navigation bar smarter by changing its size based on the scroll direction.
## Current Development Status
This feature is currently in development and not yet available for beta testing.
## Full and Compact Forms
In full form, the bar expands to screen width; when scrolling down, it shrinks into a compact floating pill.
## Scrolling Behavior
When users scroll down through chats, the bar shrinks; when scrolling up, it returns to full size.
## Why Shrink During Scroll
A smaller bar reduces distractions while users search for specific conversations in their chat list.
## Instagram Comparison
Instagram uses the same behavior: shrinking the bar when scrolling down and expanding when scrolling up.
## Future Availability
WhatsApp will make the dynamic bar available to beta testers in a future Android update.
## Key takeaway

WhatsApp is testing a dynamic bottom navigation bar that shrinks when users scroll down and expands when scrolling up.
