## Fear is moving money
A survey of registered Social Security analysts found 73.5 percent say client fears of future cuts are pushing people to file for benefits early.
## The 2032 cliff
The 2026 Trustees Report puts the retirement trust fund running dry in the fourth quarter of 2032. Without action, checks drop about 22 percent across the board.
## Nobody trusts Congress
Almost 59 percent of the 189 advisers surveyed said their clients doubt lawmakers will fix the shortfall at all. That doubt is what turns into an early filing.
## Early is forever
You can start at 62, but the reduction against full retirement age, 66 or 67 depending on birth year, never goes away. A short-term worry buys a lifetime smaller check.

> Claiming early simply to beat a future cut can backfire.
## What 22 percent costs
By CRFB math, dual-income couples lose about $16,900 a year, single-earner couples about $12,700, and higher-income couples as much as $22,300.
## Someone pays either way
Advisers expect a fix built on higher payroll taxes and a raised tax cap, not a sudden cut. The bill likely lands on workers still earning.

> I think the working class will ultimately bear much of the burden of supporting retirees.
## Know the rules you missed
About 58 percent of advisers said clients did not know divorce can qualify them for ex-spousal or survivor benefits. Half were surprised Medicare Part B premiums shrink the check.
## Key takeaway

Claiming early to dodge a possible future cut guarantees a permanent reduction today, which is the opposite of protection.
