## A call just before midnight
Dallas police responded at 11:53 p.m. Monday to a report of a pedestrian struck on eastbound Interstate 20 near Wheatland Road, in the Red Bird area.
## Found down in the road
Officers arrived to find an adult woman lying in the roadway. Dallas Fire-Rescue reached the scene and pronounced her dead there.
## The driver stayed
A minivan hit her. The driver stopped right after the impact and is cooperating fully with investigators, according to police.
## He could not avoid her
The driver told police he was heading east on I-20 when he came upon the woman already in the middle of the roadway and had no way to miss her.

> he encountered the woman in the roadway and was unable to avoid hitting her
## Ruled pedestrian error
The preliminary investigation points to pedestrian error rather than driver fault. Police say no criminal charges are expected against the driver.

> the incident appears to be a case of pedestrian error
## Her name is still unknown
Police have not released the victim's identity. It is the second Dallas pedestrian death reported that same day, after a woman in a wheelchair was killed outside a crosswalk.
## Key takeaway

Interstates leave no room for error on foot, at night a driver may not see you until it is too late to brake.
