## Yashica revives a 1959 classic
The new Y16 Pocket Camera draws inspiration from Yashica's original 1959 subminiature film camera, which used 16mm film in a tiny rectangular design. The digital version blends that retro aesthetic with modern viral camera trends.
## Keychain camera meets compact digital
The Y16 looks like a cross between the viral keychain camera trend and a classic ultra-compact film point-and-shoot. Its oblong design hints at a new direction for retro camera aesthetics.
## 12MP sensor and Xenon flash
The Y16 will feature a 12 megapixel sensor and a built-in Xenon flash with three brightness levels. It also includes an optical viewfinder enhanced with motion-sensing technology.
## Video recording sets it apart
Unlike the Instax Pal 2 and Camp Snap 110D announced the same week, the Y16 can shoot both video and stills. Sample images show a 16:9 aspect ratio.
## Seven color options available
Yashica will offer the Y16 in seven different color options, giving users choices to match their personal style.
## Creative tool for modern life
Yashica says the Y16 reimagines how a pocket camera fits into modern life as a creative companion for self-expression, travel, social sharing, and everyday storytelling.

> It reimagines how a pocket camera fits into modern life, not only as a tool for capturing moments, but as a creative companion for self-expression, travel, social sharing, and everyday storytelling.
## Launch timeline and pricing
Full specifications and price will be announced in early October, with pre-orders opening around the same time. Shipping begins in early November.
## Hong Kong company owns Yashica
Modern Yashica is owned by a Hong Kong-based company, not the original film camera brand. Recent launches like the City, Tank, and FX-D series favor retro designs at affordable prices.
## Key takeaway

Yashica is launching a digital compact camera that combines nostalgic 1959 styling with current viral camera trends and modern capabilities like video recording.
